The Inorganic and Supermolecular Research Center at Jilin University in Changchun, China, has an elegant and timeless quality that blends in with the surrounding campus. The atrium space provides an interactive and relaxing atmosphere. The 22,000 sm (72,180 sf) facility includes a key laboratory of Supermolecular Structure and Spectroscopy and a key laboratory of Inorganic Synthesis and Preparative Chemistry. In addition to the laboratories, the facility includes administrative spaces, conference rooms, offices and a 500 sm (1,640 sf) lecture hall. An important consideration was that efficiency of the building be maximized by standardization and modular design, with efficient yet flexible plans, careful considerations of workflow and ease of use of laboratories.
